I feel like we’ve all had a good break and recharged our batteries over Christmas and New Year but now we are nearing the end of the school holidays the kids and I are ready to get back into routine.
I find over the holiday period I lack motivation to do any exercise, especially when the kids are all home for the holidays. It’s usually so hot that we end up spending most of our time outdoors and I neglect our house a little too. And it just seems easier to catch up with friends and family and not do much else! But that’s what holidays are all about right?
By the end of our break though, I’m ready to get back into it. It’s almost like having a spring clean. Having things organised around me helps me have a clear head too.
So I’m making a plan. The kids still have two weeks of holidays left and I don’t intend to muddle through until then. I think they need the routine just as much as I do! I notice they start to get really silly and annoy each other more, especially with the five of them together, I’m sure you can imagine how chaotic it can be!
I’ve decided there are loads of bush walks around that we can do and when we get sick of trekking around them, we can have a change of scenery and walk along the beach. If we can get out early each morning and breathe in the fresh air, we’ll all feel a whole lot better for it and the kids (hopefully) can all burn off some energy for the day. I’m sure I’ll hear complaints and it’ll probably take half an hour just to get out the door but once we’re out, it will be worth it.
Ruby still has sleeps in the afternoon so it’s also a good chance to get everyone to chill out for a couple of hours and have some quiet time. I’ve always thought it’s great for the kids to get outside and let off some steam but I want the kids to learn to relax for a bit too. This also helps me stay sane while raising five kids!
In between this we have jobs to do to keep the house running, so Brent and I are not left with everything to do ourselves. I actually don’t think we would have enough time in the day to get everything done anyway! But if we all pitch in and help out, life seems a whole lot easier. After all, we are a team who need to work together and at the end of the day we want to be able to enjoy the good things instead of worry about all the little things.
