I’m sure most women would agree with me that finding a good hairdresser can be a difficult task and once you find someone you never want to change! Unless they move or you move… like I did! Then the search for hairdresser starts all over again.
I thought that when I moved to Auckland it wouldn’t be too hard to find a good hairdresser, after all, there are so many to choose from. But it was actually harder than I thought! I must admit though, I’m a little fussy when it comes to my hair. There’s a big difference between a bad cut and a good cut.
So I asked around and was given the name of a salon in Birkenhead on the North Shore called Biba. And the minute I stepped through the doors the girls were so friendly and made me feel welcome. Of course I had Ruby with me too (as babysitters are limited for us) but that has never been a problem. Biba Salon has such a relaxed but cool chic vibe and I’ve always felt right at home.
There is a fresh open space with salon, complete with kitchen and a small lounge area, there’s even a small patio area outside to chill out in if you feel like it. But come early morning or evening, the salon is transformed into a yoga room. Everything and I do mean everything, rolls away and into cupboards, leaving a huge open space which can also be hired out for all sorts of different events including parties or workshops.
But of course it’s not just the space that’s impressive, they are all very talented hairdressers too with exceptional service. Not only am I pampered, I also feel fantastic when I leave. I find it’s the little things that make a big difference. Every time I go to Biba I am presented with a drink of my choice, a few almonds and a homemade “Biba Blissball” (which are A-MAZING)! And I love getting their little cards that change each visit with a quirky quote. They always make me smile; from being inspirational to a bit fun, a favourite is “Put some lipstick on and pull yourself together”.
I find I’m always rushing around after everyone else so when I go to Biba I love being able to sit down and relax and let Bindi and her team take care of me for an hour or two. And the more children I have the better this time out has become!
